Packaged Wastewater Treatment Plants and its utilizations
The various applications of these plants include in medium and small sized cities, in land development or subdivisions or housings, in construction sites, logging, remote mining, in military bases, campgrounds, recreational areas like parks, marinas, power plants, manufacturing facilities, in educational campuses like schools, government compounds, in low strength, low flow, high flow, high strength applications and for biological treatment of waste water in various industrial wastewater flows.
These plants have various advantages which include these incur lower cost and are pre fabricated and pre engineered structures. The designs of these plants facilitate for quick turnaround time for installation and delivery. These plants can easily be transported at the projected site. These plants require low manpower and are simple and easy to operate. The aerobic operational principles of these plants are very effective. These plants have easy and low maintenance and are user friendly. These plants can be fabricated specifically according to the area of application and are regulatory compliant.
Packaged Wastewater Treatment Plants are generally referred to as decentralized wastewater treatment system. These plants for operation use the biological extended aeration principle which is different from the process of activated sludge treatment. An environment with agitation and sufficient oxygen levels is created by these systems for functioning so that the bio oxidation of the wastes are allowed that are suitable for the levels of release.
In these plants the influent wastewater enters by passing through a bar screen or a comminutor for gross solids removal. The active biomass is mixed with the untreated flow in the aeration chamber which in a slow forward progression takes place in the width and the length of the chamber. This mixing and rolling action takes place because of the air which has originated from the bottom of the tank from air diffusers. These mixing and rolling in the chamber permits the microorganisms to produce stable sludge, water and carbon dioxide by oxidizing treatable wastes. The wastewater is moved to the clarifier after aeration where the airlift pump utilizes the scum and floatable solids to return for further processing to the aeration chamber and the remaining treated water flows to the disinfection chamber. There it is then treated through ultraviolet or chlorination disinfection before releasing.

Sewage Treatment Plants and its different stages
The place where the sewage is created, it can be treated close to it in a decentralised system including aerobic treatment systems, biofilters or septic tanks or can be accumulated and transported by a network of pump stations and pipes to a municipal treatment plant like in centralised systems. Generally sewage treatment involves three stages which include primary, tertiary and secondary treatment. Primary treatment consists of a quiescent basin where the sewage is hold temporarily so that the heavy solids settle at the bottom and the lighter solids, grease and oil float to the surface. The floating and settled substances are eliminated and the remaining liquid is subjected or discharged to secondary treatment.
The secondary treatment eliminates the suspended and dissolved biological matter. The water-borne, indigenous microorganisms typically perform the secondary treatment in a managed habitat. A separation process may be required by the secondary treatment for eliminating the microorganisms from the water that is treated before it is released to the tertiary system. Tertiary systems permit rejection into a fragile or highly sensitive ecosystem including the low flow rivers, estuaries, coral reefs etc. The treated water is disinfected physically or chemically like by microfiltration and lagoons before releasing it into the river, stream, lagoon, bay or wetland and it can be utilized for the irrigation of a green way, golf course or park. The treated water is sufficiently clean which can be utilized for agricultural purposes or for groundwater recharge.
To utilize intermittent flows, treat difficult waste and use less space, a variety of designs of hybrid treatment plants are fabricated. These plants often out of the main three stages blend two stages into one combined stage. Packaged Sewage treatment Plants are referred to as low charged or high charged. This actually denotes the way of processing of the biological load. In high charged systems, high organic load is presented in the biological stage and for few hours the organic material and combined floc is then oxygenated prior to being charged with a fresh load. Low organic load is present in the biological stage of low charged systems which blend with flocculates for longer periods.

Wastewater Treatment Plants and its various purposes
The wastewaters which are produced in the various agricultural activities are treated with the agricultural wastewater treatment. In many parts of the world agriculture is a vastly intensified industry and the range of wastewaters produced requires a variety of management practices and treatment technologies. Farms with poultry operations and large livestock like the factory farms are the main cause of point source wastewater. In the outdoors the solid manures heaped which can cause pollution to the runoff wastewaters. These heaps of manures are easily treated by covering the heap or by containment.
Special handling is required for the animal slurries and by containment in lagoons these are treated usually before disposal by trickle or spray application to grasslands. For facilitating treatment of animal wastes, constructed wetlands and anaerobic lagoons are utilized. Severe pollution can be caused by direct runoff to the watercourses as a result of insufficient land area or application to sodden land or excessive application. Direct contamination can be caused as a result of land overlying aquifers for the purpose of slurries. This can also lead to rise of nitrogen level as nitrate or nitrite.
Industrial wastewater treatment involves the processes and mechanisms utilized for treating the waters that have been polluted or contaminated by commercial activities or anthropogenic industrial activities for reuse or before discharging it to the environment. A variety of strategies are required for treating the industrial wastewaters. Some of the techniques which are used for treating these wastewaters include brine treatment, grease and oils removal, solids removal, removal of biodegradable organics, treatment of toxic materials, alkalis and acids and other organics. Solids are removed by using ultrafiltration or filtration and flocculation. Biodegradable organics are eliminated by trickling filter process and active sludge process.

Effluent Treatment Plants and its various techniques
The flow of the effluents is divided in the distribution chamber into two equal flows. There would be no distribution if one of the thickeners is closed so based upon this criteria pipes are chosen. The sizes of the gates always facilitate equal distribution. From the distribution chamber it passes off to the two flash mixers. The coagulant flash mixer consisting of alum works on the sludge and helps the suspended solids to settle down. Lime raises the pH of sludge because the required pH of sludge is 7 to 9. The process of coagulation becomes fast because the flocculants or the polyelectrolytes work upon it. From the flash mixer it passes to the clarifier and there from the clean water the treated slurry is separated. The clean water flows on the top and sludge settles down. The clean water passes to the cooling tower where it is recycled and cooled. The sludge is extracted from the clarifier by the racker arm. The racker arm is automatically lifted up if the height of the sludge goes higher and then the sludge is settled down along with it.
Then the sludge is pumped to the sludge tank. In sludge tank, the settlement of sludge is prevented and so it is agitated continuously. The sludge tank is mainly used for transferring the sludge into the filter press and also for holding the sludge. The filter press feed pump pumps the sludge from the sludge tank to the filter press for the purpose of dewatering. Different types of filters are used for this purpose which include gravity belt filters, gravity setters, centrifuges, pressure belt or vacuum filters and filter press. The most economical and efficient among these is the filter press. High pressure filtration is present in other filtration systems. The filter press only has both efficient filter cake removal systems and high pressure capability.
